We are Team Powell!

Conceptualised in June 2014 as a family venture between husband and wife, Keith and Jill, for their son, Spencer. Family has been the core of Powell Taekwon-Do Academies from the very beginning, with PTA formally established as its own entity in 2025 after 12 years of being affiliated with other groups.

At PTA, we are dedicated in giving back to our students - our extended family. We work together in order to build up students to be successful, not just in martial arts but in life.

All of our Instructors hold an Enhanced DBS, First Aid, and Safeguarding certificates, ensuring that your child - your world - is safe training with us.

Spencer Powell

Having been introduced to martial arts at the age of 4, Spencer was immediately drawn into the martial arts way of life. By the time he was 7, he was already helping out within the younger classes and by the age of 9, he was convinced that he wanted to teach martial arts when he was older.

On that, he has been successful. At the age of 15, he was recognised as one of the youngest qualified instructors within the country, becoming chief instructor for Aylesbury, Luton, and Burnham. At the age of 21, he had some of his first students competing at the World Championships in Argentina, coming away with gold medals.

On top of having his own students being successful at high level competition, Spencer continues to train and compete at the same high level - most recently winning gold and bronze at the Europeans in 2024 in team events and individual events respectively.

Jill Powell

Originally an amateur jockey and riding instructor for adults, children, and those with SEND, Jill took up martial arts after years of watching her son in training. Her expertise with children continues to shine as she works with our 3-6 year olds, and now helps to guide our assistants in teaching these same ages.

Whilst not directly involved in ITF, she remains a key figure and guiding light to all. She continues to operate MF Aylesbury, Watford, Luton and Burnham alongside her son - a much more entry-level martial art focused on the fundamentals.

Keith Powell

The original business brains behind the organisation, and chief financier in the early days. Keith had always been big in business, once owning a large fencing company in London and multiple rental flats. As he was retired for medical reasons, the martial arts was the perfect avenue to help support his family in their needs.

Not only did he manage the business and financials, but he would also run the front of house at our venues - talking to new trialists as they came in, building relationships with the parents whilst the instructors built working relationships with the students.

Sadly, he passed away at home from terminal brain cancer in December 2020 during the second lockdown.
